What it is
Every table in the system (customers, products, operations, sales and so on) shares the same column header with controls for filtering and sorting. This page explains those shared controls: the text filter with its clear button, the date filter with its dropdown, and sorting by column.
Buttons and actions — what each one does
| Control (what you see in the header) | What it is for |
|---|---|
| "Filter..." field | Text box under the column name. Type to filter the rows that contain that text in that column. It filters as you type. |
| "×" (cross) button in the filter field | It appears floating at the end of the field only when there is text in it. Click it to clear the filter on that column in one go, without deleting character by character. Once cleared, the table shows every row again. |
| Filter dropdown | Some columns with a closed set of values (status, invoice type, Sales rep, Handled by) have no text box but a dropdown with the available options. Choose an option to filter; choose All (or the blank option) to remove the filter. You cannot search by typing in these columns. |
| Calendar button (📅) | On date columns it replaces the text box. Click it to open the date filter window. When a date filter is active, the button is highlighted with an indicator dot. |
| After (inside the date window) | Shows only rows with a date later than the one you choose. |
| Before (inside the date window) | Shows only rows with a date earlier than the one you choose. |
| Between (inside the date window) | Shows only rows with a date between two dates (From / To). Choosing it brings up two date pickers. |
| Clear (inside the date window) | Removes the date filter on that column. It only appears when a date filter is active. |
| Close (inside the date window) | Closes the window. Any filter you applied stays in place (only the window closes). |
| Column name | Click it to sort by that column. A second click reverses the order (ascending ↔ descending); the arrow shows the direction. |
| Cell with actions (for example the Status column) | Some cells have their own actions menu, with the options available for that row (in Quotes and Quote calculations, for example, Duplicate, Go to work order or Pending). Hover over the cell and the menu opens on its own; it closes when you move the pointer away, with the Esc key or by clicking outside. Clicking the cell also opens it, on any device: on mobile, tablet or a touch screen you open and close it by tapping the cell. If the row has no action available, nothing opens. |
| Column width handle (vertical strip on the right-hand edge of the header) | Changes that column's width. With a mouse you drag it left or right. On mobile or tablet the strip is always visible and tapping it opens a window where you type the width in pixels and click Accept: no need to hit a strip a few millimetres wide with your finger. The accepted width runs from 60 px up to the width of the table, and it is remembered for the next time you open the list. |
| Shaded strip at the edge of the table | It is not a button: it warns you that there are more columns off screen on that side. It appears on the right, on the left or on both edges, and switches off when you reach the end. Scroll the table sideways to see the rest. It is especially useful on mobile, where the scrollbar is only visible while you are dragging. |
How to use it
Filtering by text and clearing it
- Type in the "Filter..." field of the column you want.
- The table filters itself.
- To remove the filter, click the "×" cross that appears at the end of the field (or delete the text by hand).
Filtering by date
- Click the calendar button on the date column. A window opens.
- Choose the mode: After, Before or Between.
- Select the date or dates. The table filters as soon as you choose them.
- To remove it, open the window and click Clear.
Key concepts
- Column filter: a criterion that reduces the rows shown according to the value of one column. Each column filters independently; you can combine several at once.
- Date filter (After / Before / Between): the special filter on date columns. "After" and "Before" use a single cut-off date; "Between" uses a From–To range.
- Sorting: changes the order of the rows according to a column (it does not hide any). It is not the same as filtering.
Frequently asked questions
Q: How do I clear a column filter in one go?
A: Click the "×" cross that appears floating at the end of the "Filter..." field when there is text in it. It clears that column's filter in one go.
Q: I cannot see the cross to clear the filter.
A: The cross only appears when there is text in the field. If the field is empty, there is no filter to clear.
Q: How do I filter by a date range?
A: On the date column click the calendar button, choose Between and select the From and To dates.
Q: I want to see only the records before (or after) a date.
A: Click the calendar on the date column and choose Before (earlier) or After (later), then select the date.
Q: How do I remove the date filter?
A: Open the calendar dropdown again and click Clear.
Q: How do I see a row's actions (Duplicate, Go to work order, Pending and so on)?
A: Hover over the Status cell of that row and the menu opens on its own, with no click needed. If you would rather click, or you are on a touch screen, tap the cell: that opens it too.
Q: I hover over the Status cell and no menu appears.
A: Two possible reasons. Either that row has no actions available in that status (an invoice already closed, for example), or you are on a device with a touch screen where the system does not tell the mouse apart: click the cell and the menu opens anyway.
